Consequent upon the approval of the Competent Authority the following guidelines are approved to consider the upper cap for Ph.D. Scholars funded through HTRA:

1. There will be a maximum cap of 6 Ph.D. scholars per faculty member for those funded through HTRA. 
2. There will be no restriction on the number of scholars supervised under other funding sources (e.g., sponsored projects, fellowships, international programs). 
3. Faculty members already supervising 6 or more HTRA scholars will not be eligible to admit new students under HTRA until the number falls below the cap. However, they may continue to admit students from other sources. 

Following will be exceptions in the above-mentioned norms:

1. Newly joined faculty will be permitted a lower cap of 4 students under HTRA for an initial period of 2 years, as they settle into teaching and lab development. 
2. Students affected by faculty exit or relocation will be considered “out-of-cap” for a faculty member taking them on as a replacement guide. 
3. JDP (Joint Degree Program) students and M.Sc./M.Tech to Ph.D. conversions will be excluded from this cap, in alignment with institutional commitments and to preserve academic flexibility.

The policy will be implemented with immediate effect and reviewed annually, considering budget availability and research goals.  All schools/centers are required to comply with these guidelines.

The above referred Notifications may be treated as superseded/withdrawn.
