NOTIFICATION
The Board of Governors, in its 47th meeting held on April 08 & 10, 2026, vide Item No. 47.5.9, has approved the following guidelines, with revisions and inclusion in the existing Convocation Medal and Award Policy.
1. Review and Revision of the Existing Guidelines/Norms for UG/PG Medals/Awards (Second Major, IDD, etc.)
· UG students pursuing Second Major, IDD, and other five-year programs shall be considered for Medals/Awards in their fifth year along with the students of the batch of graduating students. For example, the student of the second major/IDD of 20XX batch will compete with 20XX+1 batch of graduating students.
· For PG students, the existing policy and guidelines shall continue to be followed without any modification.
2. Guidelines for Awards in Case of Disciplinary Action / Pending Dues
· A student must not have any major disciplinary action recorded against them at the time of selection or conferral of the Medal/Award.
· Students with pending institutional dues shall also not be eligible until all dues are cleared.
In cases where a disciplinary action is on record, a designated sub-committee shall be constituted to review the nature and severity of the disciplinary action. The sub-committee shall provide its recommendation regarding the eligibility of the student for the Medal/Award, which shall be placed before the competent authority for a final decision.
3. Inclusion of Institute Innovation Medal
The following medals are hereby instituted to recognize outstanding innovation:
· "Institute Innovation Gold Medal."
· "Institute Innovation Silver Medal."
Eligibility and Criteria for Students:
a) The student must be the recipient of the Institute Young Innovator Fellowship.
b) The applicant must have demonstrated excellence in Innovation during their tenure at the Institute.
A selection committee, constituted by the competent authority, shall evaluate the applications and recommend the awardee(s) based on the applicant credentials.
4. Inclusion of Institute Medal for Sports Excellence
The following medals are hereby instituted to recognize outstanding achievements in sports at the Institute level.
· "Institute Gold Medal for Sports Excellence."
· "Institute Silver Medal for Sports Excellence."
Eligibility Criteria:
All interested students shall be eligible to apply through an open call issued by the Institute.
The applicant must have an active and excellent record in sports, with the following mandatory and desirable criteria:
A. Mandatory:
i. Consistent participation in the Inter-IIT Sports Meet is compulsory.
B. Desirable:
i. Medal(s) or podium finish at Inter-IIT Sports Meet, national-level university championships, or equivalent competitions.
ii. Representation at state/national/international level in a recognized sport.
iii. Demonstrated sportsmanship, leadership, and contribution to the promotion of sports culture at the Institute.
A selection committee, including representation from the Sports Section, shall evaluate the applications and recommend the awardee(s).
5. Guidelines for NBCC Prize for top three CGPA performers among UG Students in Civil Engineering
The NBCC Award for top three performers of the B.Tech Civil Engineering program based on CGPA. The detailed policy guidelines, including the quantum of the award, eligibility criteria shall be governed by the provisions shared by NBCC.

6. Additional Modification in Existing Norms:
· As the MS (by Res.) program renamed as M.Tech (R), the same should be incorporated at appropriate places.
· “The student with excellent academic records, preferably B.Tech (Honors)” should be replaced with “The UG student with excellent academic records”.
· All existing Institute Silver Medals for UG discipline should be converted as “Institute Gold Medal for Academic Excellence among the Graduating Batch of B. Tech. / B.S. Students in XXXXX Discipline. It will be conferred to all UG discipline based on the eligibility.
· The medals criterion based on the batch strength has been discarded.
· For PG (MA/MSc/MTech/MTech-R/MBA) one Institute Gold Medal will be awarded in each discipline (e.g. Mechanical Engg/ Civil Engg/ Computer Science Engg/ Electrical Engg/ HSS/ IKSHMA/ Materials Engg). However, the batch strength for the particular discipline should not be less than 20.
