(Institute supported Teaching/Research/Project Assistance provisions for students registered in non-fellowship programs B.Tech./M.B.A./M.Sc./M.A. etc.)

The Institute Standing Committee (ISC) in its meeting held on 13th April, 2023 vide agenda item no. 18 approved the proposal for Institute supported Teaching/Research/Project Assistance provisions for students registered in non-fellowship programs B.Tech./M.B.A./M.Sc./M.A. etc.

Following guidelines shall be applicable for the students:

Eligibility

• This scheme is only for students who are registered in non-fellowship programs such as B.Tech./M.B.A./M.Sc./M.A. etc.
• IIT Mandi students having minimum 6.50 CGPA (UG)/7.00 CGPA (PG)
• No disciplinary action is pending or contemplated.
• Student has to be within the general time limit of the program e.g. B.Tech. student within 4 years from date of registration or MBA/M.Sc./M.A. student within 2 years from date of registration.
• No “F” grade is pending

Remuneration guidelines

• Students can be paid for a maximum of 8 hours/week under this scheme.
• Each student will be paid ₹300/- per hour.
• Students cannot be TA in the course where he/she is currently registered in the courses/projects.
• Students will be engaged in this scheme based on the needs of various sections.
• Students will be engaged only upto 4 months, in a stretch.
• If the requirement of concerned task is completed, the Assistantship will be terminated without any notice. Students cannot claim against the termination.
• Claim has to be submitted and processed every month. To continue, students need to get at least “Good” remarks (every month) from the Faculty in charge/supervisor.

Nature of assignment

• Laboratory/tutorial assistance etc.
• Institute services such as building digital services/laboratory setups etc.
• Any other tasks related to Institute building and services.

Application procedure

• Any faculty needing an Institute support TA should send such request with proper justification to the Dean (Academics).
• School/Centre Chairs can also approve such request from School/Centre funds.

Dean Academics/School/Centre chairs can approve Institute supported TAs, based on the following:

For any work requiring Teaching Assistants/Project Assistants, the students having the HTRA or similar Government funded scholarship will be allocated on priority. Institute supported TAs to be considered only when strong justification is given for not utilizing the services of the scholars already receiving scholarships.  In case of large number of such applicants, Dean (Academics) will ONLY approve such request based on priority and fund available (in discussion with Dean (Finance).

School/Central Chairs can support such TAs/PAs from pre-allocated School/Centre annual fund.

Other guidelines

• Preference will be given to the IC theory, IC laboratory and specialized courses.
• Institute supported TAs will be allocated only if strong justification is available for not being able to use the TAs receiving other scholarships.
• TA allotment guidelines will be followed at par.
• Non-fellowship students can also be considered from other head of funding such as PDA/School fund etc. (within respective funding norms).
• Director IIT Mandi can relax any of the above conditions in a special case.
