Title: Role of NKN Local Coordinators
(Role of NKN Local Coordinators)
On the recommendation of the Board of Academics, the Competent Authority has approved the following role of the Local Coordinators (LCs) for courses offered over NKN (National Knowledge Network)
There can be two kinds of LCs:
- Administrative-LC: LC who only deals with the administrative aspects of the course, such as taking attendance, conducting tutorials and exams, collecting and sending assignments and answer scripts to the course instructor. In this category, the LC typically does not attend the lectures.
- Co-teacher: In this category, the LC (henceforth termed co-teacher) is involved with the NKN course in a much deeper role. Co-teachers typically attend the lectures, clarify doubts from students, may evaluate assignments and answer scripts. Usually, co-teachers have an interest in the course topic, and may offer the course independently in the future.
The School chair or the course-coordinator may define the role of the LC in each NKN course, and submit the same to the Dean (Academics) for approval.
Course-Loading for LCs
- Administrative-LC duty can be considered as part of a faculty member’s administrative duties. Hence, this will not be considered in the academic course-load, but can be included as an administrative activity.
- Since the role of co-teacher involves academic duties, this will be included in the faculty member’s academic course-load. The School Chair/Course Coordinator will accommodate this while allocating courses to instructors.
