NOTIFICATION                                                                       

                                                        (Conversion of B.Tech./B.Tech. (Honours) to Dual M.Tech. Degree)

The Senate in its 15th meeting held on 19th February, 2018 vide item no.15.5 has considered and approved the following rules and regulations for conversion from B.Tech./B.Tech. (Honours) to Dual M.Tech. Degree Programme. 

1. The duration of the dual degree programme is 5 years from the time the student enters IIT Mandi.  Both degrees (B.Tech and M.Tech.) will be awarded at the end of the fifth year subject to satisfying necessary credit requirements.
2. All students that convert will be given MHRD HTRA in fifth year which is at par with that given to students of M.Tech. program and will have to pay the fees as applicable to M.Tech. students.
3. The option to convert will be given at the end of the sixth semester (after grades are announced) till the beginning of the eighth semester (by coursework add/drop deadline).
4. Conversion after add/drop in the eight semester will not be allowed.
5. Only students with no backlogs or incomplete grades are eligible.
6. Only students with a CGPA of 8 or better are eligible.  For Honours students, the same CGPA rules apply even after conversion to receive a B.Tech. (Honours) + M.Tech. degree.
7. By the end of eight semester, all degree requirements to get B.Tech./B.Tech. (Honours) must be completed.
8. A criterion for getting HTRA is that students must have CGPA≥ 8.00 at the end of 8th semester or with valid GATE Score.
9. A formal application with a supporting letter from the Faculty Advisor and School Chair must be made.
10. For students with CGPA less than 8 at the end of sixth or seventh semester:  
    • Conversion is not possible.             
    • Interested students are encouraged to appear for GATE for admission to the regular M.Tech. programme.
11. A total of 46 credits (5 or above level courses) must be completed (in addition to regular B.Tech./B.Tech. (Honours) degree requirements) to be awarded a dual degree M.Tech.
12. Any extra course credits earned during B.Tech. program beyond what is required for the B.Tech./B.Tech. (Honours) degree, may be counted towards course credit requirements for M.Tech. degree.
13. The credit requirement into coursework and dissertation is as per the individual streams of M.Tech. awarding the degree.  However following requirements should also be fulfilled:             
    • All course work must ideally be completed within the fifth year. 
    • Core courses in the stream of specialization must be completed. 
    • Credit required for dissertation in the stream of specialization must be completed. 
    • The Faculty Advisor can use his/her discretion in deciding course work.
    • In case the student decides to leave prior to completing the M.Tech. degree requirements, he/she may be awarded a B.Tech./B.Tech(Honours) degree provided all the necessary credit requirements are complete.
