Title: Institute Merit-cum-Means (McM)/SC-ST Scholarships for students of M.Sc. program
On the recommendations of the Board of Academics in its 8th meeting held on 21st August 2015 to provide the Scholarship to M.Sc. students, the Competent Authority has approved the following Scholarships with Terms and Conditions as mentioned below;
Institute Merit-cum-Means (McM) Scholarships;
- These scholarships are offered to meritorious non SC/ST students in the M.Sc. program from the economically weaker sections of the society.
- The limit on the annual income from all sources currently is Rs 4.5 lacs. This limit may be changed from time to time with Senate approval.
- The norms for the M.Sc.-McM scholarships will be generally along the lines followed for the B.Tech-McM scholarships with certain changes.
- The scholarship is awarded to eligible and selected candidates from the second semester onwards; that is, it will be awarded to students in the second, third and fourth semesters of the program.
- The basis for awarding the scholarship will be academic performance provided the income criterion is satisfied. The CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of the student at the start of an academic semester shall be taken to indicate the academic performance of a student. If CGPA of two students are the identical, then the SGPA of the immediate previous semester shall be the deciding factor.
- A student whose CGPA is less than 6.0 is not eligible for this award.
- The maximum number of scholarships awarded will be up to 25% of the total strength of the students in the M.Sc. program.
- The duration of the scholarship is for one semester. The students who are eligible to receive the scholarship will be determined in each semester.
- The scholarship consists of 1) tuition fee waiver and 2) a fixed monthly stipend for a period of 5 months (August to December & February to June).
- The monthly stipend amount is Rs 1000/- for the eligible students in the second semester and Rs 2000/- for those in the third and fourth semesters. These amounts may be changed from time to time by the Senate of the Institute.
Institute SC-ST Scholarships;
- These scholarships are open to all M.Sc students who belong to the SC/ST categories.
- This scholarship is in addition to the tuition fee waiver which is applicable to all SC/ST students.
- The Institute Scholarship for SC/ST students is given to all eligible SC/ST students who meet the income criterion.
- Parents’ total annual income should not exceed the prescribed limit. The income limit is as per that followed for B.Tech students and is currently Rs.4.5 lakhs per annum.
- A fixed monthly stipend of Rs 2000/- will be paid for five months per semester for four semesters (August-December & February-June) to all eligible students. This amount may be changed from time to time by the Senate of the Institute.
- Free boarding and lodging will be provided for five months per semester for four semesters.
- An amount of Rs 3000/- per year will be reimbursed towards expenses for stationery and books for two years. The bills for the expenditure incurred are required to be produced for reimbursement.
General Terms and Conditions;
- The scholarship is liable to be withdrawn, partially or wholly, in case of misconduct, concealment of material facts, supplying of false information and/or continued absence for more than a month except on approved medical grounds.
- Students leaving the institute on their own accord without completing the program of study may be required to refund the amount of scholarship received either partially or wholly.
- During the tenure of the scholarship, the scholarship holder shall not ordinarily receive any other scholarship, stipend, financial assistance or remuneration, for any work, except with the permission of the Dean (Academics) or as provided in the rules.
- Any student under disciplinary probation is not eligible for scholarships.
