NOTIFICATION

Based on the recommendations of the Dean’s Committee meetings held on 14th and 16th March 2026, the competent authority has approved the removal of the 3-month limit prescribed in the Notification Ref. No. IITM/DSRIC/02/2019/10-10 dated 30-10-2019.

Accordingly, Notification Ref. No. IITM/DSRIC/02/2019/10-10 dated 30.10.2019 is hereby superseded, and the following norms shall govern the subject matter:

1.   Principal Investigator(s) (PIs) may engage intern(s)/expert(s)/student(s) temporarily for work related to Sponsored Research Projects, Seed Grant Projects, Consultancy Projects, or Internal Projects on a payment basis.

2.      Such engagement may be made without formal appointment against a project position.

3.      Compensation in the form of honorarium/stipend/assistantship may be paid only from the funds available under the Contingency or Manpower heads.

4.      The quantum of compensation shall be decided by the PI; however, it shall not exceed the salary admissible for the corresponding project staff position as per the SRIC salary structure or the norms of the funding agency, whichever is applicable.
