Course Proposal Process
As per 9th Senate Meeting minutes held on 11th May, 2016, vide Item No. 9.6, the Senate advised that courses need not be sent for external review when the Course Interest Group (CIG) of the programme recommends that there is sufficient independent internal expertise available to review the course. The Board of Academics (BoA) in its 49th meeting held on 28th March, 2023, vide Item No. 49.17 (ii) discussed the proposal to dissolve the CPC. After detailed deliberation, the BoA resolved to approve the proposed guidelines, as placed below:
A. Where the Schools/Centres are Equipped with Sufficient Expertise:
- Charges of CPC will be deliberated to respective schools/centres.
- Specialized faculty from Schools/Centres will propose the course after appropriate discussions and reviews, if necessary. Faculty may meet multiple times before proposing the course in BoA.
- School/Centre Chair will authorize the proposal, to be presented in BoA.
- BoA will pass the course with comments, if any.
- Course Numbers will be maintained by School Offices for courses, other than IC Courses.
- IC Courses’ Numbers will be maintained by the Academic Section.
- Faculty of School are responsible for the checking the duplication of contents, courses etc.
- If the course needs involvement from different schools, the proposal needs to be proposed by combined members of the different schools. However, one School should take the ownership of the course. Both School Chairs should authorize the Proposal.
B. Where the Schools are not Equipped with Sufficient Expertise:
- Schools will send the proposal to at least Two Experts outside the Institute.
- Comments will be discussed in the School Meetings.
- After Addressing the comments, School will present the Course in BoA.
- Points 3-8 for Proposal A are applicable here also.
C. Where the Schools are newly formed and Courses are to be proposed:
- School will propose a committee, with Experts (after getting the consent from experts) from Other Reputed Institutes from India and/or aboard, to the Dean Academics. Upon the approval of the Dean Academics, the Committee will propose the curriculum along with the contents of the courses.
- Alternatively, expert(s) from the Other Reputed Institutes may be requested for the course contents.
- After receiving the proposals from experts, School will present the Course in BoA.
